QEMU USB Gamepad Demo with Need For Speed III (1998), Pandemonium! (1996), Mortal Kombat 4 (1997)
Two Bluetooth gamepads were ordered from Amazon to check out QEMU USB Gamepad implementation with Bluetooth connectivity. SDL2 cross-platform Joystick/Game controllers support did not let down this time (as opposed to OpenGL). The same codes just work without any platform-specific meddling as the SDL2 backend manages the Joystick/Game controllers on the Host for all kinds of connectivity, wired, wireless and Bluetooth. Bluetooth gamepads work best with modern thin & light laptops. Just grab those up and have FUN with Retro Gaming on-the-go! Even better, have two of those with different layouts, dual thumb-sticks for sports racing funs with analog precisions and SEGA Genesis retro-style 6-button D-pad for platformers and beat'em-up. Save the harsh banging on the MacBook Air M1 excellent keyboard, the gamepads are built to stand for abuses for such arcade-style action games.
QEMU USB Gamepad puts QEMU featuring qemu-3dfx in the same league as Parallel Desktop 18 in term of Game controllers support for Windows games. Only Parallel Desktop 18 has the same seamless concept of Game controllers connectivity for Guest OS, older versions made use of the cumbersome Bluetooth sharing that requires pairing within the Guest OS. Parallel Desktop is a Mac-only solution while QEMU featuring qemu-3dfx brings the same seamless connectivity of Game controllers to Linux, Windows and Apple Silicon macOS.
As for "the other camp", there are always **BS** about accuracy and period-correctness while in reality Voodoo emulation is broken (not so accurate huh?!!), crackled audio on CD-music and high latency inputs that make them completely useless for Retro Windows Games, even for games that have aged for over 20 years.
For Retro Windows Games, nothing yet comes close to QEMU featuring qemu-3dfx with the peace-of-mind of VM isolation and Games Preservation in "pristine condition". In Apple Silicon macOS, QEMU featuring qemu-3dfx remains the **ONLY** option actively supporting Good Old Windows Games with Windows 98/XP VMs. While someone could have played the same Good Old Games on Windows 11 ARM64 with Parallel Desktop 18, it is nothing less than making Apple "Silly"-con jokes for using an overkilled VM for 20-year old games.
