QEMU Classic Retro Games on MacBook Air M1 -- Resident Evil PC Series 1, 2, 3: Nemesis (1996 - 1999)
In conjunction with Resident Evil Village release on macOS Ventura, QEMU featuring qemu-3dfx is proud to present the CAPCOM IP in the beginning of time on PC in the series Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3: Nemesis on macOS Ventura with QEMU Virtual Machine. All 3 Games are played in "pristine condition" from retail CD releases together with QEMU USB Gamepad. Resident Evil 1 & 2 work with game controllers out-of-the-box while Resident Evil 3: Nemesis requires manual tweaking of the game's INI configuration to add an entry for QEMU USB Gamepad. The edit to INI configuration was on display throughout the video.
The survival horror series are not fast-paced action games. Frame rate does not matter much as long as the animation looks smooth and audio/video are in sync. They also do not take up a lot of disk space with minimum installation. Majority of the Game content can be streamed from ripped CD images on remote NAS storage without affecting gameplay. QEMU advanced networking support leveraging macOS VMnet enables Daemon Tools on Windows 98 VM to mount CUE/BIN/ISO images over the network.
The 20+ years old games are no match for modern Resident Evil releases or official remake of the same games. They are also available in various console releases that make them easy targets to play on macOS. The Apple Silicon has been a heaven for console emulation. The PC versions are quite difficult to manage due to legacy DirectX issues on modern Windows. Nevertheless, QEMU featuring qemu-3dfx demonstrates the versatility of Game Preservation with Virtual Machine that makes Good Old Windows games playable across Linux, Windows, macOS and beyond x86 PC.
