Well, so much for my idea of a peaceful visit to a new land right? Quake should need no introduction for how in 1996 it revolutionized how FPS games were made with the push to 3D and its lovecraft, horror atmosphere. Its sequel I dismissed a lot and enjoyed unreal more when it came out, but Its grown on me some with this remaster, released on August 10th 2023. It contains the expansions packs AND a new one named Call of the Machine by MachineGanes!

Quake II was originally released on December 9th 1997. It drops the lovecraft and midieval horror for Sci Horror and war movie tropes, Our role is as Bitterman: A soldier sent to face the Strogg on their homeplanet. Bitterman's shot down and our goal to stop these freaky Half robot and mutant aliens begins. Quake II is more a focus on massive scale levels and overall showing what the latest in I.D. tech was capable of, And god damn does it not feel satisfying: Vs the atmosphere rock of Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor, rather a new musician, Sonic Mayhem gave Quake II a ear searing metal soundtrack that could be listened to in your stereo system.

Our start weapon is a pew pew laser pistol, though we get more powerful weapons, they're just as meaty and punchy as you'd think, enemies? Yup they are dangerous but the movement and the jumping keep it from being stale fights. Theres a lot of emphasis on your PDA which updates with objectives, and a massive change vs say, Quake 1 is the emphasis on running between levels to keep going in each part, few parts I'm not wild about but I think the remaster helps make its.. somewhat rough pc past better
