Quick Play - Sid Meier's Ace Patrol [Windows]
Sid Meier's Ace Patrol is a hex-based strategy game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K in 2013 for PC, Android and iOS systems. In the game players command a squadron of 4 pilots from 1915 to 1918 over the Western Front in WWI. Players can choose between the United States, Germany, France and England, with each nation having different aircraft available for each nation. Missions are randomly generated, but the player decides which mission to pick, up to five missions per year of fighting. Dogfights are turn based, with players moving their units and combat being done automatically as a part of movement. As their pilots gain experience, players can upgrade them with new abilities and aircraft upgrades. TGameplay wise the game is great! The graphics are well done in a cartoony asthetic, and the actaul combat and squadron management is very solid and fun. However, the sound and music are average at best, and buggy at worse. Also, the historical factor does leave something to be desired, with the game suffering from minor inconsistancies (the U.S. being in the war in 1915 and fighting at the Somme being one glaring example). Still, if these sorts of details don't bother you, the actual game is pretty fun, and is worth checking out.
