Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a re-skin of Puyo Puyo (1991) developed by Compile and published by Sega for the Genesis (1993), Game Gear (1993\94) and the Master System (1994). In Dr R's MMM, players compete against the A.I. or against a human opponent, with the first player to have their screen filled to the top with beans or rocks losing. Players can add rocks to their opponent's screen by getting combos and clearing away beans. Beans can be cleared after matching 4 beans of the same color. In the Story mode, players will compete against various robots of differing skill from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, including Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts the Monkey. Gameplay is, in my opinion, just as addicting as Tetris, if not more so thanks to the combo system, and the art and music are excellent. Overall, this is definitely a good choice for a puzzle game, and can be played on both PC (via Steam) or on Xbox One, PlayStation, 3DS (for as long as the store remains open) or on Swtich thanks to the Sega Genesis Collection.
