Resident Evil 3 Remake - Color Banding issues - Trying ReShade as partial "fix"
Greetings, everybody.
In RE 3 Remake there’s an issue that I can’t really stop noticing the more I play the game, and it’s the fact that there seems to be a more obvious color banding problem than its predecessor, RE 2 Remake, also had.
In RE 2 Remake it was necessary to enable the “Film Noise” setting in the Graphics options, but that option has not been added to RE 3, at least not in the settings; it’s present inside the “re3_config.ini” file, yes, but enabling it seems to do nothing at all, as far as my eyesight can tell, at least, I’m no color expert or the like, but I think it doesn’t work.
So In RE 3 I seem to notice a lot more color banding because of this, and so far the only solution I found that helps a little bit, not much, is adding a “deband” shader from ReShade, it was the most obvious thing to try. It’s not perfect but it helps, especially in motion so yeah, it is what it is, I still don’t know why Capcom has removed the Film Noise effect, seeing as RE 2 had it, and I believe RE 7 too, not sure on that one.
Just made this quick video that probably won’t show the issue too well, I also posted a couple screenshots on the community section on my channel, so yeah I see the banding, depends on the screen, brightness settings, etc. Maybe more expensive screens won’t have an issue with this, who knows, I don’t even have an HDR screen to try things out there, either.
In any case I’m sure the Brightness settings for RE3 aren’t as decently configured when one follows the calibration instructions as they were in RE2, the game still looks awesome for the most part, it’s just this banding in certain areas what bothers me, because RE 2 didn’t have it once you used Film Noise.
I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you in the next one : )
