Riven: The Sequel to Myst Gameplay Part 9 - Unlocking Other Two Bad Endings
I had to search for a last hint to figure out the rest of the game, and that hint was the D'ni Numerical System. I mean, the first ten numbers were clear to me, but the Access Code for the Domes asked for numbers clearly beyond that limit. It was tricky, because some numbers could be mistaken by other possibilities for those who don't know the rules of the system, like me. But the rules are:
1- Remember the numbers from 1 to 4, from the puzzle that led to the Linking Book to the Moiety Age. Those numbers are worth their assignment when they are written horizontally.
2- When those numbers are written vertically, they are their assignment multiplied by 5.
3- When you see a figure that doesn't look like a simple number, only think about how you can form the number with the figures for numbers 1 to 4. Don't try to flip the numbers beyond 4, or you will have inconsistent results. For example, the fourth symbol in the Access Code is 21 and not 45, which would have been the value after flipping the symbol for 9.
After that, the rest seems straightforward, but I couldn't release Catherine after trapping Gehn in the Prison Book. I don't know what happened. However, I foresaw that opening the Star Fissure under those circumstances would lead to another Bad Ending, so I just went ahead and did it.
On a side note, it seems that it was never intended to visit the final Dome before solving the puzzle of the Press Panel. Although, given that there are only two possibilities after checking out the other Domes, it's a somewhat fair trade-off.
Next time I'll showcase the Good Ending.
See you in the next video!
