Ah yes. The beauty of “mutual pining”.

Seriously though, I finished this manga some months ago and it has got to be one of the sweetest things I’ve ever ingested lmao. The wholesomeness was just too much to handle at times. Even for a quiet reader like me, I find myself pausing at some point to mentally squeal and smile like an idiot. Sasaki and Miyano to the BL genre is basically like Adachi and Shimamura to the GL genre. Both potrays same-sex romance in a healthy, authentic and realistic light, where you can root for the protagonists and relate to them through simple, yet perplexing monologues-- ones mainly driven by by adolescent mentality and inexperieces with love. The animation is clean, the color scheme is soft and pleasant to look at, the character design plays with trope to subvert the audiences' expectation (in Miyano and Sasaki's case, we see Sasaki having the appearance of a delinquent, but is inherently sweet and considerate; whereas Miyano, petite and feminine, displays a more assertive personality as he try to content with Sasaki's skinship and antics). Both animes also did well when it comes to expressive details. They show small gestures of characters to enhance the intimacy of their dynamic. My favorite example of this is in one particular episode of Sasaki and Miyano, where Miyano switches the strap of his handbag to the other arm, so he could walk side by side with Sasaki without any inconvenience. It such a small, almost miniscule detail, and yet it felt really warm and rewarding to those who are able to pick it up. Sasaki's gay panic (?) here reminds me of Adachi's as well. The blushing, the fidgeting hands, the shy gazes, silent flusters-- Oh man, how is it possible to fall in love with a series all over again, despite already knowing all the plot points ahead? To simply put it, the giddiness and immersion I had watching this was no different than the one I experienced with Adachi To Shimamura. It's fulfilling, it's sweet and it's just a bundle of happiness. Makes me wanna fall in love or go hug people for fun afterward lmao

And yes, I am aware that the lyrics of this song probably doesn't fit the tone of the series itself, but something about its rhythm just sticks with me. The upbeat chorus, and then how it slows towards the end-- aesthetically speaking it kinda fits with the pacing of Sasaki And Miyano as a whole (not the message, of course). I also thought it would be fun to dramatize the series through the power of editing lol. My intention was to first capture Miyano's feelings, since his interest and attraction towards Sasaki--though slower and involves lots of confusion-- is much more apparent; and then later into the edit would be Sasaki's gravitation towards his cute kouhai - which, btw, happened pretty early on in the series itself, but is something he is able to hide from Miyano and plays it cool (ps: it doesn't last long though, so nice try, Sasaki. I love this himbo sm.)
