Hi all.

I was feeling a bit down today and decided to ignore my homework to edit this video within a span of 3 hours. I’m not usually this defeated and stressed but…. Idk. I felt like I disappointed a lot of people today. Can’t really explain my troubles to anyone else, so I was trying to drown my feelings out by listening to sad songs instead. Needless to say, that was also how I finally got to listen to the full version of Dead To Me. This masterpiece has an entire vibe to it that just seems so sad and otherworldly. It reminded me of Pim Stones’
songs (Neon Lights, specifically), where the beats and instrument transcends you to an entirely different universe, and the lyrics are written to shatter the listener’s heart. And fortunately, amidst my negative emotions, I thought of my beautiful, tragic genshin boys. Inspiration struck and my mind went: “Welp. Screw the work. Forget about crying. I needed to relax and create.” And that’s how this strange little edit came to be.

I know I gushed a lot about these sweethearts, but I don’t think I ever gave full credits to mihoyo on knowing how to create complex characters. When I learned about each one of their stories, I also thought a part of me changed, too. I had learned to be more empathetic, understanding different kinds of people who seem to share the same interest, beliefs, and personalities with these characters. I learn more about different cultures, different mythology. And more importantly, I learned to be more ambitious and open to change. I wanted to be wise and mature like Zhongli. Wanted to protect people I care about without asking anything in return, like Diluc, Xiao, or Childe. Wanted to be smart and mentally strong like Kaeya and Kazuha. Wanted to be determined like Aether. Optimistic and hopeful like Venti. And perhaps, even relating to characters like Albedo, an enigmatic genius who does not grasp normal human interaction, is a way for me to acknowledge my flaws and appreciate my own strength.

Idk. I rambled a bit there, but I guess I was just trying to find something positive to say while being sad. It’s beautiful how fiction can be such a comfort for people like me. Genshin really is one of the few games that allow me to escape from the pressure of the real world. Watching these boys overcome their difficulty and painful past were all very inspiring. Especially Kazuha in the latest quest-- what an amazing character.

By the way, I couldn't help but notice that the males in this game seem to wrestle against a lot more psychological demons of their past than the female characters. Ei is one exception (she grew on me a lot in this update), along with Ganyu’s loneliness, and the death flags coming for Lisa…Still, I feel like Genshin discloses more about the boys’ tragedy than the girls. I could be wrong though. I love all of them anyway. Personality-wise or lore-wise, they’re all very special to me.
