Sea of Stars - Ch. 26 - Hills of Intent
Last time, we finally moseyed over to Mesa Island. Resh'an has joined us. We have everything we need to lift the barrier and confront the baddies there. We even had a nice little comical scene where Resh'an woke the sleeping giant statue. Now it's time to proceed into Mesa Island in earnest.
CHAPTER 26 - HILLS OF INTENT
So something interesting here. This area is called 'Autumn Hills'. This game, which is made by Sabotage Studio, has another game called 'The Messenger'. This game also has a level called 'Autumn Hills' which is actually the same level! It's crazy. I started playing The Messenger recently, but I don't like that I can't disable the autosave feature.
Anyway in this area, you'll get to use Resh'an in battle for the first time. He's definitely got some power to him. I haven't gotten the hang of it yet, but there's a way to boost his attack that hits everyone! Have fun trying that out. His normal attack has a poison attribute (even without live mana) and his magic attribute appears to be shadow(?) or some sort of darkness? I dunno...
There's only four treasures in this area: Oaken Armor, Maple Cork, 1 Rainbow Conch and the Recipe for 'Parfait'. The Oaken Armor isn't that important, as you'll soon run into a merchant who sells them. The merchant also has a new weapon for Valere. The Maple Cork is a weapon for Resh'an.
You'll come across a Chronicle Rune puzzle. Make sure you activate both the sun and moon side. Well, you can't proceed without activating the suns. But the moon switch will give you the Combo Skill Scroll for the Valere/Resh'an Combo 'Arcane Moons'.
Eventually you will climb up the side of a mountain and be treated to a beautiful pixelated background. This is presumably 'Clockwork Castle'. If you camp and speak with Serai around this time, she will mention that it's all the way to the East and we have to cut clear across Mesa Island to get there.
When you see a campsite, know that a boss fight is just around the corner. But the boss is not only easy, but also a bit of a gimmick fight. It's interesting, because in The Messenger, the boss monster is exactly the same lol. Get ready to fight a pile of leaves...
Boss Battle - Leaf Monster
So you get this little mini-puzzle where you essentially sweep up the leaves into a pile of roots or maybe branches. Then you change the time of day until the moon comes out and the pile of yard waste reacts. You've created a monster!
This guy will be invincible while he still has his leaves. But every two or three turns, it'll use 'Throw Leaves' to hurl them at you. It will be leaf-less for 2-3 turns. This will be your chance to pummel it with everything you got. Then the leaves will come back and the cycle repeats. It doesn't have too much HP though, so after 2-3 cycles, it should be dead.
After the fight, Burgraves will emerge out of the shadows. You'll be treated to several flashback scenes showing Erlina and Burgraves backstory. There's a lot of observations you can make here. But we're going to call it a day, since a new chapter starts here.
Join us next time for Chapter 27 - 'The Crone of the Marsh'.
