Sea of Stars - Ch. 35 - The Dead of a Forgotten Race
Last time, we ventured through the Derelict Factory and visited Serai's hometown, Repine. We saw first-hand how horrible the worlds that have fallen to the Fleshmancer can be. Saving this world and confronting the Fleshmancer seem to be tied together, so we'll attempt to save this world. We have no leads on how to get to Sky Base, just some faint signals coming from the Cerulean Expanse, a vast empty area to the east of Repine. Let's go check that out...
CHAPTER 35 - THE DEAD OF A FORGOTTEN RACE
Next to Repine is Cerulean Reservoir, a fishing lake. But something seems to be wrong here, as there's no 'light'. Y'know what I mean, that rectangle of light that indicates the zone where it's ok to reel the fish in. If you attempt to do this outside this zone, the line will eventually break. We probably either need some sort of reel upgrade, or we won't be able to fish here until later. Who knows?
Continue eastward to the Cerulean Expanse. Here, you'll have Serai's drone follow you, to pick up on any signals it might detect. If it finds something, it will prompt you to dig. When you dig, there are a possible four outcomes.
You'll either: dig up a treasure, dig up ingredients, dig up monsters, OR dig up a circular stone platform with eight dots on it. You'll notice each screen has eight possible paths: three on top, three on the bottom and one on each side. The stone platform you dig up will indicate which way you need to go in order to progress. Going some other path will just lead you in circles.
There's only three treasures here: Wireplate Armor, Gold x25, Croustade. Additionally, there is a hidden area here that I did not know about. This area has a Rainbow Conch, along with one of the Question Packs, so I might have to come back here later.
Just like there are eight paths, you'll need to go through eight areas to reach the true exit. If you follow the directions on the stone platforms (which I'll now refer to as a 'direction slab').
This should be a breakdown of what you'll find in each area and which
direction to head:
Area 1: Ingredients, enemies, direction slab (E)
Area 2: Ingredients, Wireplate Armor, direction slab (NE)
Area 3: Enemies, direction slab (SE)
Area 4: Ingredients, Gold x25, direction slab (N)
Area 5: Ingredients, enemies, Croustade, direction slab (NW)
Area 6: Enemies, direction slab (SW)
Area 7: Ingredients, ingredients, enemies, enemies, direction slab (S)
Area 8: Ingredients, direction slab (E)
When you head east on the eight screen, you'll reach an area that looks much like the entrance. In the next screen, you'll reach the 'Lost Ones Hamlet'. After a brief discussion, you'll be free to explore. But the only thing to do is walk all the way north to reach a small building.
Resh'an will explain that this is the Fleshmancer's workshop. On a hunch, he uses a dispel concoction to remove what he believes to be a concealment curse. Moments later, a whole host of floating creatures appear! Apparently the Fleshmancer removed their souls from their bodies and then concealed them. Terrible!
One of the creatures, known as B'st, wants to joins us. They are the dead of a forgotten race, just as Yomara the Necromancer told Resh'an would happen. B'st also wants to fight with us, so he'll need a physical body presumably. Thus Resh'an will attempt the last great feat of Alchemy he has never achieved: Living Glass!
In order to do all that, we'll need to go into the Fleshmancer's old workshop and borrow his tools. So into the weird lab we go. However we're warned that the abomination that did 'this' (soul snatching, presumably) to them is in there. Yikes! Time to take a break, right?
Join us next time for Chapter 36 - 'Living Glass'.
