Sea of Stars - Ch. 43 - Endgame Solstice Shrines
0Last time, we started our tour of side quests available at the end of the game. We began with the 'World Light Puzzle', which gave us Resh'an's best weapon, the 'Aetherwood Cork'. This video will cover the Solstice Shrines we've yet to visit. For our troubles, we will get two awesome pieces of gear, along with the best weapons for Zale and Valere. Let's dive on in...
CHAPTER 43 - ENDGAME SOLSTICE SHRINES
There are a total of five Solstice Shrines scattered between Home World and Serai's World. They are:
Solstice Shrine #1 - Evermist Island.
Solstice Shrine #2 - Wraith Island.
Solstice Shrine #3 - Solstice Shrine Island (West)
Solstice Shrine #4 - Solstice Shrine Island (East)
Solstice Shrine #5 - Serai's World
The first two Solstice Shrines were already available. They're located on Evermist and Wraith Islands. If you haven't visited them already, the gear you find in them might not be the most useful. But you should still visit them because you'll need to clear all five to complete the quest. Let's go over to #3
Solstice Shrine #3 - Solstice Shrine Island (West)
This one is located a bit north of Evermist Island. You can tell it's a Solstice Shrine if it has the iconic door the Solstice Shrines all share. To get inside, we'll first have to solve a quick light puzzle. Quick is the key word here, as you'll have to do this part quickly. Though it's certainly not difficult, I messed up halfway through and still pulled it off without having to start over.
Once inside, you'll face the real puzzle. We need to visit the left, right and back-center of this chamber. Problem is, there's just a gaping void in the middle. So we'll have to use this moving platform here that is separated into 4x4 tiles. Each tile has an arrow with a direction it. Step on the tile to move the platform in that direction. If you've run out of moves, simply jump off the platform and hit the switch again to reset.
On the left and right side are switches that will open the gate in the back-center housing the treasure. I was able to get to all three areas without having to reset. But if you hit one switch and then reset, you will not have to start over.
The treasure here is the 'Eclipse Armor'.
Solstice Shrine #4 - Solstice Shrine Island (East)
This one is located south of Mirth. Solve a very easy light puzzle to open the door. Inside, it gets a bit trickier...
This puzzle is interesting because the light puzzle will trigger one of two options. The left side will cause light to shine from the various crystals you see here, which will cause a climbable plant to grow. Moving the light to activate the right side will cause blocks to appear and/or move.
You'll have to switch between these two in order to climb and progress through this area. There are a total of three switches you'll have to hit in order to open the gate housing the treasure. Luckily various points throughout each level will allow you to see the Chronicle Rune and change light options.
The treasure here are the 'Helical Earrings'.
Solstice Shrine #5 - Serai's World
Take another trip across the Sea of Stars and head to Serai's world. The Solstice Shrine here will be located west of the SoS entrance here. The entrance puzzle here is definitely the trickiest of the three.
You'll have to move the light to activate two different options. One will raise or lower platforms, while the other will cause smaller square platforms to extend or recede from the wall. What we need to do here is hit the switch at the top to open the door.
The puzzle inside is not as hard as it looks. Basically the area towards the back has stairs that rise up out of the ground. You control the position of these stairs by moving the blocks around the 3x3 area towards the center. As you access different areas of the room and hit switches, you'll be able to move the blocks in ways you couldn't before, thus finally allowing you to take the stairs to the very back. There's no gate in this one, but you'll need to hit all the switches to access the treasure just the same.
The treasure here is the 'Celestial Ray'.
When you open the last treasure, in the last Solstice Shrine... it will cut to the weird door we saw in the Mountain Trail, towards the beginning of the game. The door will now open. Head back there and the Elder Mist will challenge you to a rematch. Only Zale and Valere fight here.
Boss Battle - Elder Mist 2, Elder Mist Sword
This battle is exactly the same as last time. If you attack the Elder Mist while the Sword is alive, it will counter attack automatically. A workaround is to use moves that hit but don't target. This battle isn't hard but it is long, just like the Sea Slug we faced last time.
The treasures we get here are the 'Moon Bo' and 'Sun Blade'. Side Quest Complete!
