Alrighty, folks. This is it. Not only have we already beaten this game, but now we've satisfied all the requirements to fight the game's true final boss and unlock the true ending. What are these requirements, you ask? Well, the main requirement is you first have to beat the game and obtain the normal ending. If you have not done that, I urge you to stop reading now to avoid huge, massive spoilers.

Ok, there are a total of eight requirements:

1) Beat the game, get normal ending - this activates the monument at the Moorlands. The monument has seven pillars, which all need to be activated.

2 - Collect 60 'Rainbow Conches'
3 - Fully build the town of 'Mirth'
4 - Complete 'World Light Puzzles'
5 - Complete all 'Solstice Shrines'
6 - Complete the 'Coliseum'
7 - Complete the 'Duke Aventry' Side Quest
8 - Complete 'the Queen the Was' Side Quest

When you do this, you're allowed to go back in time to the moment Aephorul attacked Garl. You'll switch him with B'st, who can at least survive the hit. Now Garl is back and can join in the final battle. As a bonus, we also get the recipe for the 'Legendary Feast' item. Time to get the ending we deserve!

CHAPTER 50 - TRUE ENDING

After the very nice dinner at the Golden Pelican, it's time to prepare for the final-final battle. I came packing with 4 Legendary Feasts, 4 Pudding Chomeurs and 2 Braise. We can now easily teleport to the summoning room in the Fleshmancer's Lair, which is just outside the final chamber.

Boss Battle - Aephorul

When this scene plays out now, Garl will interupt Aephorul while he's calling Elysan'Darelle and calls him a loser once again. This makes Aephorul decide to challenge us himself this time. This won't be like the battle we had with Elysan'Darelle. We're going to be up against the Fleshmancer himself, so the battle will not only be tougher but last much longer.

I've seen two different strategies employed in this battle:

1) Simply come with enough recovery items and slog it out. I saw a playthrough using this strategy which lasted about 45 minutes with the playback sped up! It was probably over an hour at regular speed.

2) Use moves that delay the Fleshmancer's turn to either: keep him from having a turn altogether, or limit his turns as much as possible. If you're going to try and keep him from having a turn, this will require a bit of luck. Ideally, you'd be delaying a regular attack (no spell locks, just a timer). I saw someone do this perfectly and it the whole battle took about 10 minutes!

Moves that delay turns:
Serai's 'Disorient' Skill
Resh'an's Ultimate Skill - 'Great Eagle'
Serai/Resh'an Combo Skill - Arcane Barrage

You should be able to cycle through three moves and with a bit of luck, keep things going. Only Disorient requires MP and the other moves actually delay turns longer. Disorient has a tricky boost that I was only able to pull off a couple times in this game.

So those are the two strategies. How did I do? Well, I wasn't so lucky. But on watching the playback, I seemed to miss a couple opportunities to keep delaying Aephorul's turn, that definitely cost me. In the end, I used a combination of both strategies.

Let's talk about Aephorul's moves though:

Energy Shot - regular attack, hits one member and does about 140 damage. Bad, but not horrible.

Seed Pull - this is the attack with six spell locks. This move targets one member and does 140 damage. It also causes two seed pods to appear (one if you break at least 4 out of 6 locks). This one is dangerous because there's a follow-up. Avoid it if possible.

Throne of Flesh - another 6-lock move, which is the follow-up to Seed Pull. The seeds sprout to become Appendages. You can tell their magic weakness based on their color. While the appendages are still alive, you can't target Aephorul. This is what makes Seed Pull and this move so dangerous. You can easily get behind and overwhelmed.

Maw - this is the five-lock move that targets the whole party. Jaws rise up from both sides of the screen and snap on the party, doing 50-60 damage to everyone. This is really his weakest attack.

Additionally, at the midpoint of the fight, you will change gears and fight him arcade shooter style, like we did with the World Eater in the normal ending. As you can imagine, this fight is much harder too. If you die here, you'll have another chance to complete this. But it would be better to just knock it out.

Anyway, keep pummeling Aephorul, delaying his turn and using your recovery items as economically as possible. Eventually, he will die. The whole battle took me less than twenty minutes. Not bad.

We still have to fight the World Eater a bit later, but that fight will feel like a complete joke compared to the one with Aephorul.

Enjoy the ending! Enjoy this game! It was really well-done and deserves a good playthrough. Hopefully, I achieved that.
