🕹️ Seek And Destroy is another title from New Zealand based Acid Software, released under their Vision label, and published by Australian software house Mindscape in 1993. The game features a full 360 degree camera, a selection of weapons, and features similar to Desert Strike. Lets take it for a spin.

Production Notes:
===============
Recorded: 7th March 2018
Edited: 19th-24th June 2018, 12th Aug 2018, 21st Nov 2018, and 2nd January 2019
Narrated: 21st November 2018

Recording for each new series usually starts in the Spring of the previous year, followed by editing in Summer and Narration in the Autumn. This game was perhaps the first game I recorded for the new shows, after The Settlers and a few others in 2016. I always wanted to get in to this, but never found the time. I had a quick warmup play for this one, where I sailed through to level 5, and then I quit the game and came back to record it shortly after. During the first play, I ended up dying unexpectedly, so I played the game again up to the same point, and started the recorder again. During the second play I rushed through the first levels, but I didnt record this because I wanted to show what the game plays like for the casual player. A perfect player could demolish this game, and this would make the game look too easy, which it isnt.

Narration went through various stages, and the narration always seemed too quiet in this one. I bumped it up on three different occasions and still is quiet in some places. Happy with the narration on this one.

Danscore:
Seek and Destroy is a bit like Desert Strike mixed with Zeewolf, and although some fans love this top down format, I prefer the side view of those games as a more immersive experience. The top-down view means you can see more of what lies ahead, but a restricted rear view means enemy helicopters can almost be on to of you before they appear on the screen. Hence radar gazing in between the action, to find and target major enemies. You dont have enough fuel to constantly back away to avoid missiles, so until you learn the perfect strafing manoeuvres, sometimes you have to take the hits and hope there is a shield booster crate hidden somewhere nearby. Control with joystick or mouse is fast enough and responsive, and the enemies feel weak and dont take all your firepower to knock out. The issue of landing to pick up some tokens is problematic later, when tanks can roll in and destroy your fragile ship, and it would have been better to have full fuel and full health given for these ordeals. This is made harder through the 14 increasingly tough multi-phase missions, because there is no password system or code to use to re-play missions, unlike Zeewolf and Desert Strike. According to Mobygames: if you beat a level without damage you get a gold medal, which opens up a shop in-between phases, where you can spend your medals on upgrades and also expanded fuel tanks and weapons loads etc. It would have been nice if this was obvious, and most players dont even know about the upgrade system in this game. I didnt know, and cant get this to work, thats why it isnt even in this playguide review! For those lost opportunities I give it a 7 out of 10 as a very good game, but not unbeatable in the realm of top heli shooters on the Amiga.
