WinUAE Installation Guide - 11/12 - Remapping Joypads to add extra functions
52Yet another part of this epic saga. Now we look at how to remap controllers with alternative functions within WinUAE, covered section by section. SEE LINKS BELOW:

Note: When remapping my PS2 (Playstation 2, not PS/2) controller, I made sure the Analogue button was pressed, and the red light was on. If you dont switch the controller into Analogue mode, I dont think you have access to the second analogue thumbstick.

When you have completed your new Custom controller setup, and its all running smoothly, make sure you go to the Configurations tab and save up your setup. The package allows for up to 6 Custom configurations. For example, reverse Forward and Fire Button could be Custom 1, Flight Sims could be Custom 2, RPGs Custom 3, Dog of War on Custom 4, Hybris and Battle Squadron on 5, and Desert Strike on Custom 6. Never reaching for the keyboard again. You can even swap custom configurations using a button on your controller.

This video is thanks to a fan request from Alex Heissler. He contacted me a couple of days ago wondering what happened to this WinUAE tutorial series. I honestly thought this stuff was self explanatory, but I realised the bit about remapping controllers with extra functions was still a mystery to most, so I decided to put this show together to explain it.
As with all the shows in this series, I include various games to demonstrate the the process, and in this one its: Gravity Force and FA/18 Interceptor. Co-incidentally I was watching the John Gage review of Gravity Force very recently, and so he inspired me to make this video showing how to reverse the controls. While playing around with this, it suddenly dawned on me that I could re-map most of the controls for Interceptor, just like Ace Combat. I tried it, and it worked. The footage was all shot in reverse order, with me playing interceptor, and showing the keys remapped, to playing the Galaxy Force game last. I added music (just like the NTSC video) to jog the action along, and to make it not boring for people who just wanting to check the video out for light entertainment. Im happy with the video. :)
