Slam Tilt AGA (Amiga) - A Playguide and Review - by LemonAmiga.com
đšī¸ Slam Tilt was perhaps the last great Amiga Pinball game from 21st Century Entertainment (Hewson) and this time it wasnt programmed by any of the Digital Illusions/DICE team. Featuring missions and mangasaves, mini-games and multi-balls - something most pinball games take for granted these days, but perhaps for the first time on the Amiga?

Footage Recorded: 3rd Dec 2016 (2 sessions)

Narrated: 21st July 2018
After we played Pinball Obsession in 2015, I mentioned in the video that it would be great to play Slam Tilt in the competition next year (2016). Low and behold, Slam Tilt was the first game we played in January in Round 1 of the 2016 Lemon/EAB compo. Id never really tried to get in to this before, and I never had this one back in the day - although I had the three predecessors in original boxes. I was surprised how deep the tables were once the missions start appearing, but I didnt get very far in understanding it during the competition, so I knew it was good for a playguide. In December I went back to record all the tables played twice, but I'd already forgotten most of how to play it.
When it came to narration in the summer of 2018, this was amongst the very first games I narrated, so its as close to my normal speaking voice as possible. I decided I wouldnt do anything which are now in most other (formatted) youtuber review videos; like go in to the makers/creators and their vast games catalogues, or the history or development of the games, or anything from the manual or magazines, etc. This saved a heck of a lot of time in preparation, and my usual A4 page of names and dates became just the title, and the magazine scores (I love those scores!, and couldnt bare to not do them). This left me pretty much free to talk about the game, to explain (loosely) any tips I had found, and to TV commentate on the action. I feel if I had paused the game to explain the tables, it would have become a boring technical review; so no green arrows in this one. Its just meant to be lighthearted fun.
I remember the long and hot summer when I narrated this, and I remember having fans blowing, and being warm and happy. Maybe it will bring some hot summer cheer to you in December?
Note: In the middle of editing, Ben Daglish passed away, so I made a special tribute ending for him. The editor refused to smoothly fade in his image along with the caption, so he kinda jumps on to the screen, apparently wearing his own name on a T-shirt - which he might have found funny. RIP Ben.
Danscore:
--------------
Slam Tilt seems to add several new layers to the tried and trusted Pinball formula, given all four genuinely fun tables also have mini games, and multi-balls - complete with new animations and high resolution mode. This is on top of all the usual pinball ramps and targets, and I'd say all the tables have good table layouts, and a unique atmosphere all of their own. Yet even with all the new bells and whistles, something about the classic Dreams and Fantasies tables was better, clearer, cleaner, brighter, and more memorable. So I'd say this is the third best pinball game on the Amiga, and as such I'd give it 8.5 out of 10.
