The very first Aleste game on the arcades, huh?

It's a fun and fascinating game!

To be frank, this game has a minor case of mechanics overload. You can shoot, focus shot, then hyper mode...? Blow!? Shoot and focusing is obvious, but where is the bomb button? Hyper mode...? How does it work in this game? What is blow!? Ship-switching...?! Where is my life count!?

So let's have them explained first, one by one. The main purpose of switching is either situational, recovery, or scoring. You first pick the leader, which will be the first ship you'll use. Each leader also has their own effects. In case of Type B, Latna, item spawning, tracked on the left side of the screen, will become faster. At max you're only allowed to get hit 3 times in a row. When you get hit, the currently used ship will be out of commission until she recovers, gradually, or can be hastened with their corresponding ship type icon. Have them all in recovery mode, you lose. So the mistake tolerance here is actually quite high. Just make sure to not make it too much in a row. Weirdly enough, this is the console design Aleste series always have. Aleste games have high mistake tolerance.

And since switching is important when you get hit or for the purpose of scoring, you need to learn how other ships work. A is the fastest, all rounder, B, to be honest, the weakest but she's capable against the popcorns, C, the best in terms of DPS but you need to point blank, and D, the slowest but hhas defense bits and have surprisingly good DPS provided you point blank. Why switch when you can just stick with your favorite? First, it fills up your Hyper, which is important for survival because the patterns alone are pretty harsh, and this is part of the scoring. For Casual mode, the combo increases each time you switch ships. Which is to be honest, quite the mouthful to explain how and why it works, so please watch the video :P

Then there is hyper mode. I think it's more accurate to describe Senxin Aleste, Battle Blade Aleste, as Battle-Galuda Aleste. The hyper mode slows down the patterns, just like in Galuda. Destroyed enemies will also clear out their bullets, so the key to scoring is to profit out the bullets that get cleared while in hyper. The usage isn't restrictive too. You only need to have the gauge at 25%, so for defensive purposes the hyper is quick to recharge. In fact, you must learn how to recharge quickly. But it's quite a mouthful, again, to be explained in the description. The point is hyper is your friend. Abuse it whenever possible.

Last but not least, Blow. Blow is... blow out the bullets. Quickly recharges, but the blown out bullets will aim at you! Use it recklessly and the game will punish you, even in Casual mode. So what's the point of this when it gives you danger...?

This is an Aleste game. One of the series' staple is picking up items will give you i-frames. Yes, i-frames are easily available, but not everytime! The 2 main sources are item pick ups: Ship change and bomb, then the hyper mode, which will give you short i-frames to defend yourself. But at times you're pick ups away toward being able to defend yourself, so this is where Blow is important. This is a bullet hell, and item pick up and dense bullets usually don't gel well.

The graphics and music is nice, 16-bit style with 2020s color palette. Bright and energetic! The coolest thing for me is the bosses. I like it that the bosses are machines hijacked by giant monsters. Grossly cool! The music also changes when the monsters inside reveal themselves.

This is a must play game! But for now it's only on the Japanese arcades. I wonder when will M2 port it to consoles... 2022?

To access the TLB you need to get all of the 5 secret fairies on each stage. No continuing allowed! Or is it? On Original and harder you seem to also need higher rank. How to get them again? Watch the video :P
