Session 2: 100cc (Super Mario Kart)
0Now this is where things start to get difficult. It may not look like it from the Mushroom Cup, but as the courses become trickier and tricker to navigate, it's only a matter of time before my winning streak comes to an end. (Hint: there's a reason the Special Cup isn't available on 50cc.)
The issue comes in the primitive AI. Being a game from 1992, the best they could do is give every computer-controlled kart a single specialized item to use over and over again when they're near the player. Which might not seem like a big deal, but then there's the fact that your main opponents are determined by who you choose to play as. I've already said that I prefer the Koopa Troopa. He's always handled the best for me. But his main opponent is Luigi. And Luigi's special item? A starman. The only reprieve is that computer opponents aren't allowed to use their items until the second lap.
Interestingly, if a computer opponent is ever outranked by another computer opponent, they switch priorities. Koopa Troopa's second opponent is Yoshi. So if ever Luigi makes too big a mistake, it's Yoshi who I'd be competing with. Which may sound a little better, since I wouldn't have a Starman trying to catch up with me. But then I'd have to deal with a torrent of eggs from the sky, instead.
