For the first 6,000 or so years in the history of games, they were played by everyone across cultures, communities and genders. But once videogames arrived on the scene, things changed, quickly. Games went from something most everyone played to something else designed, marketed and consumed by niche audiences. How can we get past the perception of games as “boys’ toys” full of space marines, wizards and plumbers?

This talk will look at some of the factors that limit the potential of videogames, keep a lot of people from making games, and lead to many people not thinking games are for them at all. And, of course, the talk will offer solutions and paths forward to make videogames more inclusive.
