Motorhead is a progressive beat em up, with the almost unique characteristic of playing as Lemmy, and featuring the rest of the Heavy Metal band Motorhead. The action plays out ok, and the graphics were made by a Golden Axe veteran, so maybe this good will be good???

This is one of those games which is easy to play, in the same style as perhaps The Simpsons arcade game. This is perhaps the evil twin of that game, with hard drunk and pills, and all kinds of other stuff. I played the game a couple of times in the past, but never sat down to try to master it before, so these plays were cold after many years, and I had to figure it out as I went along. I never did get the hang of the special weapons and instead ended up pulling my tongue out most of the time.

During my research for the narration of this review, I read stories about how Lemmy was a meth freak, and how the song Motorhead was created, at the very tail end of the Hawkwind period. There were other stories I head too, and these were thrown in at random when I didn't have much else to talk about. The characters in Japan reminded me of Dan and Ravi from The Retro Hour.

Danscore:
The Amiga is not exactly awash with progressive beat em ups. The ones that are out there include Dynamite Dux, and Golden Axe - both good. Given the lush graphics on some levels, and the talents of the music artist, this could have been at great title. The action feels slow, and the incentive of being able to use the guitar to kill enemies wears off quickly when you realise this is just about all you can do as a melee attack. It is only used occasionally otherwise, as a hit or completely missable missile launcher. If the player was able to pick up everything on screen and throw it, including the enemies, this could be a joy. But this is missing in general. The music is not licensed, and seems very tame for this hard rocking game. The graphics on most levels are good, but there is not much parallax going on. Hit detection noises are a terrible thud instead of a high pitched Whack! sound when enemies are smacked in the chops. No blood and gore. No voice samples. In terms of fighting action, I certainly got more joy from Moonstone this series than I got from this. The alcohol theme is a one trick pony - with no projectile vomit to make use of it - just a lame fire ball sometimes. It's all just a bit dull, and that's a shame, as most of the gameplay mechanics are there to make a good game. Taking Streets of Rage into consideration, I'd give this 6 out of 10.
