Shadow of the Beast (Amiga) Playthrough / Dying simulator in a beautiful grotesque world. Classic.
Shadow of the Beast (1989) from Reflections interactive is one of the hardest platformers in the history of gaming and a legend of the late 1980s. Today, the series may be little known, but it was once a benchmark of graphic quality as well as musical quality of home systems. The game looks really good in terms of the quality of sprites and animation, add to that many layers of parallax scrolling and we have a really good looking 2D game even by today's standards . But personally I think that the soundtrack plays the main role here, it is simply fantastic and fits perfectly into the grotesque world presented in Shadow of the Beast. Well, but that would be enough because this is one of the most frustrating games ever. It's so hard that such well-known titles as Ninja Gaiden, Silver Serfer, Batman on the NES next to it are a walk in the park. The game does not forgive mistakes, and when we die we start all over again. Opponents jump out literally from all sides and traps only make things even more difficult. Every potential mistake is the nail in the coffin and the timings of the attacks are quite precise, so much so that even repeating one stage many times there are still mishaps. It doesn't help that the controls are very stiff and the level design is one big maze in most cases where are items that must be found or you will not push the story forward. Overall, this is a game that you have to patiently learn, going through the same moments step by step and torturing your psyche in the process. But once you manage to finish it, the satisfaction is immense. But the ending sucks..... Sucks bad....
