Shadow Yuuka and Minoriko (Labyrinth of Touhou 2 Plus Disk)
0This fight took a bit of figuring out.
Yuuka and Minoriko both specialize in NTR-element attacks, though Yuuka does have a few non-NTR, non-Magical attacks up her sleeve.
According to the Wiki, Yuuka has an internal counter that determines the type of attack she'll throw out. At the start of the fight, you'll see her use regular Attacks, Green Arrow and Flower Shot. These apparently put her internal counter up by 1. Once she hits 5, she'll use a considerably more powerful attack. Her options are Grass Knot, Pummel, Reflowering Gensokyo and the dangerous, WND-element Beauty of Nature. Each of these attacks drops her counter down by a specific amount.
To be honest, I did not give this gimmick much attention. Mostly because Yuuka has a more exploitable bit of AI regarding Minoriko. The first bit of exploitable AI is that Yuuka will always spend a turn to heal Minoriko if she has low enough HP. The second bit of exploitable AI is that if Minoriko straight up dies, Yuuka will go into a loop of casting Concentrate and then Master Spark. Minoriko herself isn't a threat but it's possible for her to get kills on your less tanky characters (though if she follows up Yuuka's stronger attacks with a group spell of her own, she'll get the tanky ones too)
Anyway, there are a bunch of ways to approach this fight. If you're very confident in your party's DPS, you can just kill Minoriko ASAP and then bum rush Yuuka as she's charging up Master Spark. I chose to distract Yuuka by constantly targeting Minoriko. I don't know if her heal spell contributes to her counter, but a turn spent healing Minoriko is a turn where Yuuka isn't pummeling your front row.
If there's a way to do this fight "legit" then I don't know anything about it. Even with HP, MND NTR and WND resistance, most of my tankier characters couldn't survive more than two of Yuuka's attacks in a row without healing.
