While clearing out some of my recently acquired Steam demos, I came across this one and was so blown away by it that I just had to make a video of it.

Showgunners plays a lot like the recent X-COM games, but is set in a futuristic TV show where contestants fight to the death (I’m sure you’re all familiar with this premise by now) and acquire upgrades in between episodes (oh yeah, it’s a roguelike too).

The game itself is really fun to play, but what sets it apart is the fantastic visual style. I loved the character designs, the use of colour, the cinematic camera angles and, of course, the over-the-top kills. There are options to adjust the frequency of “Kill Cam” and “Dismemberment” and if you pay attention to the video you’ll probably surmise that I set both to “Always”. :P

I tried to keep the video to under 10 mins, but this run went so well and showed off so much cool stuff that I just couldn’t bear to cut it short. If you’re time-poor then you can probably just watch up to the point where the Ronin shows up (about 4 minutes in) and you’ll still get a good idea of how the game works. Otherwise, I would recommend watching the whole thing to the end if you can because it turned out really well.
