For my first channel update (which you may have noticed is now on a fortnightly schedule) of 2024, let’s take a look at one of the many games that I’m looking forward to this year.
I have a soft spot for games that mix RPG mechanics with a puzzle game (think Puzzle & Dragons, Puzzle Quest 2 and so forth) and Flowstone Saga is shaping up to be a good one of those.
As the video shows, it’s a top-down RPG where the battle mechanics resemble a game of Tetris. The best feature IMO is the ability to unlock new pieces and customise which pieces you get while battling (which is listed under ‘Flowstone’ in the menu). This adds a level of depth and customisation that greatly benefits the game.
Aside from that, you’ll see all the usual RPG tropes like equipping new gear and selecting new perks as you level up. The game also features ‘puzzle’ levels in between the battle levels which, as with most puzzle games, is a nice way to break up the main gameplay.
Fun fact: this game is from the maker of Tangledeep and may even be connected to that game's story and world!
