New Star GP is a game I’ve had my eye on for a while, and after playing the Xbox demo I was finally convinced to splash out for the full game (which is currently in Early Access but will get a 1.0 release on PC and consoles in March 2024).

This video, where I do a GP race as fictional racing legend Vic Deangelo, has a bit of everything: selecting a team perk that affects my race day strategy, carrying out that strategy in real time, unlocking a new perk, and trash-talking a rival racer after the race. But mostly, it’s about me speeding around a track for 6 laps.

You’ll notice that the racing here is a blend of arcade and sim elements, with a rechargeable boost that helps with overtaking in the same way that the KERS system does in real F1 racing. I think they got the balance just right, especially as someone who prefers arcade racing over sim racing.

Also, I know that I took some of those corners really badly so don’t bother pointing that out. A win is a win!
