SiN Episodes was an early, conceptually interesting attempt at episodic content which didn't quite pan out as the developer Ritual would have wanted. The idea was to follow up the studio's pseudo-classic shooter SiN with nine budget-priced installments which would continue the story from the original game. Sadly, though, only the first episode (called "Emergence") was ever released before Ritual got bought up by casual giant MumboJumbo in 2007.

I never bothered getting Emergence at the time but since retail copies of the game sell for under 5€ these days I recently decided to pick it up. Since the game is based on the Source engine it's actually a bit more reminiscent of Half-Life 2 than the original SiN. More specifically, the environments consist of fairly unspectacular realworld settings and the shooting has that weird detached and decidedly non-visceral feel of Valve's popular game. As for the story, well, let's just say Ritual never abandonded their old-fashioned sexist approach to female characters in video games. Elexis Sinclair is, like, *so* 1998...which I guess is part of the whole retro charm of making a new SiN game at all.
