Xenoblade 2 came out too late to get a playable fighter in Smash Ultimate's base game. But Fighters Pass 2 made up for that with Pyra and Mythra. Rex almost became playable alongside them, but the developers ran into issues that stopped it from happening. So Rex was incorporated in other ways besides being playable.
