Have you ever had friends that bragged how GREAT they were in Super Mario Bros 2? Now you can say, "All you were great in was Doki Doki Panic! Here, try the REAL Super Mario Bros 2! Hope you like dying a lot!"

Nintendo made a decision about 9 months after the release of Super Mario Bros for NES NOT to release the sequel in the United States, because Americans were "too slow and stupid" to be able to deal with the difficulty level in the real smb2. Apparently, they forgot how scarred the Atari games left Americans (2600 and 5200). The games on those systems were so impossibly difficult, but people still had a good time when playing them no?

I QUIT games when they are too easy. Not offering me a challenge is a surefire way of making people not want to play. If I know I'm not going to get better at something (for lack of difficulty), I put it down forever. It's the games that kick my ass that keep me coming back for more and more years down the road!

Nintendo's decision was partly a bad one, underestimating Western gamers, assuming that we all suck. But if they had not made that fateful decision, we would have never been made aware of how great Doki Doki Panic is!
