As a Nintendo DS Sonic game, Sonic Rush was so nice, that we ended up getting it twice.

This is a direct sequel of the first game, and one of the first notable Sonic games following the damage to the series' reputation after Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.

This game was prove that there can still be good made by this point. Unfortunately, this game's soundtrack isn't by Hideki Naganuma, but the SEGA composers that did work on this soundtrack did try to emulate his style, more or less.
----------

So here's how to story of this game started:

Sonic the Hedgehog, and Miles "Tails" Prower were flying their Tornado plane over an ocean and through a wild storm. Tails was trying to track down a powerful energy reading amidst this storm.

But then it turned out... the storm tracked THEM down, and struck the Tornado, causing Sonic & Tails to hurdle right into an actual tornado, which was also the powerful energy they were trying to find!
----

They washed up on a shoreline, where they were woken up by an unfamiliar face. A raccoon girl: Marine the Raccoon (and she's Australian!).

For where they all were, Sonic & Tails washed up on Seagull Beach, which is nearby Windmill Village, Marine's home. She decided to welcome the two into her house.
----

A day later, Marine was trying to launch her SS Marine ride, but she ended up crashing right into Sonic & Tails and destroying it. Tails, however, offered to build Marine a new ship for her, but she lacked the materials to make that happen, if Sonic can use his speed to search for them. These Materials include certain Metals and Jewels.
----------

Surprisingly, in what feels like a first time move, a 2D Sonic game has a Tutorial you can play, if you choose. This takes place in Whale Point.

A lot of Sonic's controls are the same as they were in the original Rush. He's got his Spin Dash, he's got his Super Boost, he's got his Tricks, Double Jump, and Humming-Top technique.

At the end of every level, you will find a huge treasure chest as your goal. These always have Materials in them, but for the regular Zones, you get more Materials the higher your Rank is.

For now, Whale Point rewards you with Blue Material and Iron Material.
----------

That Material was just enough for Tails to build a new Waterbike.

But first, you gotta go to Marine's house to get it started with Tails. You can also talk to Marine, and someone else in the other room named Setter for some Game Options.
----------

Tails eventually gets the waterbike built, called the Wave Cyclone. Now to ride it!

Use the Touch Screen to draw your path towards the first island, which is also the first proper Zone of this game. Then you will go through a course that has you literally riding the waters towards that Zone.

On your water ship, besides accelerating, steering left and right, and collecting Rings, you can also do Tricks off ramps by drawing lines in the correct direction, and pull off a Boost with your ship with the Boost Meter. Boosting allows you to attack enemies and become invincible.

Finish this ride to finally reach the first actual Zone: Plant Kingdom!
