Well disease sucks.

It's hard to criticize this game's flaws, because I could make a case that many of the older roguelikes contain the same issues! To be brief, trying to develop an "identification" mechanic is always hard, because it not only has to be balanced with respect to the "perfect player", but also with respect to the beginner. I'm not even sure how feasible this kind of developer's challenge is. It's almost as if the game has to be different depending on how much is known!

For an example using this game, it'd be as if each recipe you allow to be included also adds a trap or an enemy or tougher stats: therefore, not knowing the recipes at all (or alternatively not being able to use them) equates to a simpler game experience on the other end, too. As you learn recipes, the game itself adds more content to deal with... but, while it sounds cool, trying to figure out how to let players choose which recipes and which added challenges, it's a complicated mess. Suffice it to say that trying to appeal to newbies and experts alike in terms of "game knowledge" is an unsolved mystery. Being left in the dark leaves unlearned players craving spoilers, but removing such things-to-know can vastly drop the complexity other gamers desire.

If you guys know of any games that seem to accomplish this well, I'd love to try 'em out. I have a fair list of games to go through first, but finding something that blind runners and seasoned veterans can equally enjoy would be awesome in this genre.
