Rail shooter with an aliens/space station theme. The controls are interesting-- you have a rapid-fire space rifle (hold down the trigger for rapid-fire, but a meter depletes and when it's empty the rapid fire is slower), a special weapon button (this is the best part about the game-- you can collect 4 different special weapons to deal out heavy damage, and you can stockpile the different weapons to have more than one of each), and a foot pedal that allows you to back up when the oncoming alien wave gets too overwhelming. The special weapons are, in order on the screen, Freeze Ray, Blade, Fire Ball and Flame Thrower. The remaining weapon furthest to the right on the screen is what will be used first. You collect the special weapons by shooting various objects that hold clips and then shooting the clips. These objects are usually green sensors on the walls, sometimes crates, sometimes certain enemies. On occasion a human will either run for safety towards you or wait for you to rescue them from alien clutches or from an alien pod. You can accidentally shoot them and kill them! Saved humans will get you bonus points when a stage is finished. Aliens and enemies include aliens that slash their claws at you (blow off their arms first!), parasite-like mouths, boss aliens, cannons, etc. Some stages will let you choose which direction to move at a crossroad (shoot a possible direction shown), and some stages will put you in a rover and you'll drive along a planet surface. The difficulty gets insane at points, and you'll really want to have a friend as the 2nd player to take some of the heat off you. On the final stage you are in your escape ship, and with alien stowaways you'll need to carefully avoid blowing up the controls and, in turn, your ship! Waste all the aliens (among them a boss) without blowing up your ship and you get the good ending; otherwise you get the bad ending. Not a bad game (and the graphics/sfx/music are top notch), but the rail shooter genre was not among my favorites. Multiple home ports. HAPPY LABOR DAY FOLKS!
