Splatoon 3: Exploshing around the Resort in Splat Zones [14(4)-2, Explosher]
What's an Ink Storm weapon, I ask my Discord. Explosher, they reply. Yeah, but that's difficult, I say, although I did use it with some success in Splatoon 2. Okay, I'll give it a go, but some of you need to help carry me. And so we head in to Splat Zones battles, me with an Explosher, and somehow it works. At least the Explosher has range, letting me sit at the back, and excellent ink spreading where it hits the turf, letting me contribute to inking the Splat Zones. I even remember my Point Sensor occasionally.
I don't contribute a huge amount of direct ink for the first minute, happy to simply explosh from the back, but so effective is the Explosher that I am still targeted. I move around a bit, and try to push up to get some actual splats, only to be spotted and splatted quickly. I'm not discouraged, and shift to the side to see if I can do more than ink turf, and I get a few hits, if not enough to convert to splats, and some attention from it. I jink back to the ledge for a moment, until the turf is yellow enough for me to safely move up. I apply pressure until a Hammer appears, but I don't sensibly run away and try to splat it. Somehow, I do.
I run away to get my breath back, but am spurred on by the Hammer splat and move back to a more aggressive position. That lets me splat the Splatana Stamper, and I don't even run away from the advancing Inkbrush, although I may have got a bit of help with that. And I can't really run away quickly either. My Exploshing really helps secure the Splat Zones, two exploshes all that are needed, and the range of the fiery bucket really helps keep me safe and the other team away.
I hold my turf until the Splat Zones turn purple and I am less protected, at which point I withdraw to the ledge. But not for long, and once I remember about my Point Sensor I get back to the action, tagging inklings and using the sensors to guide my exploshes. Do others know about this strategy??? I must be getting in to the other team's heads too, as the Inkbrush gets close and runs away, rather than closing for the splat. Maybe the Explosher is intimidating?
The Splat Zones change colour often, with neither side holding them for long. It seems that the Hydra Splatling and Jet Squelcher, other good long-range options, could be the cause. I try to do something to suppress them, helping splat the Hydra Splatling once, but succumbing to the Jet Squelcher as I endeavour to get close. The Splat Zones are yellow, though, and our score getting closer to the knockout victory. A purple B-bomb threatens the Splat Zones, a buffer to our score avoided by continued inking, which pays off seconds later when collective splatting scores a Wipeout. With three points left to go, the victory is assured, and with quite a result for my Exploshing. Woomy!
