Today is a stormy spring day! We take care of our animals and harvest Ancient Fruits in the greenhouse, before heading to the mines. There, we continue the Danger In The Deep quest for Mister Qi and venture to floor 40 and beyond, which seems to have a forest theme!

Despite having much more time today, and having more luck, we make comparable progress as yesterday. Are the mines getting more difficult? Or maybe we are spending more time harvesting resources? We got really unlucky on some floors, where we have to mine out half of the rocks to get a staircase. And we get two staircases on the same floor twice!

We meet Abigail in the mines! This is the first time I've seen her there, surprisingly. According to the wiki, it only occurs after her ten-heart event!

In the mines, we find even more of the new Radioactive Ore! Also, on floor 38 we get a Qi Gem as a drop. I wonder if the mines will stay in this state even after the quest? It seems that locking Radioactive Ore behind a random quest every week makes it much too hard to get, to be a component of certain crafting recipes.

On floor 40, the mines take on a new theme I wasn't expecting! A grassy forest theme, complete with twigs, weeds and hardwood stumps. Complete with killer mushrooms that drop a lot of coal (a re-textured Dust Sprite it seems!). We get another Qi Gem on level 49. On the last two floors we visit, I put down staircases since it was late, and on floor 53 a swarm of bats was spawning but none were creating any staircases!

We manage to pass out on the farm, due to our Warp Totem. It's probably better to pass out there than in the mines, though! We will see how much money we lose tomorrow.

So far, I'm loving the new mines! There's so much new content to be seen, and lots of variety as well. The new mines provide an alternative source for uncommon forageable items, in addition to the old items like quartz and mushrooms. Even though most of the monsters are re-textured from the original, there are some new mechanics like the ziplining squids and charging ghosts.

With the addition of the new mines and Qi's quests, the forge on the volcano makes a lot of sense now! The Galaxy weapons used to be the best in the game, but now even with the Galaxy Sword, I feel like I'm exploring the mines for the first time a second time, if that makes any sense!
