Because this game is non-linear in nature, I'm going to have to make my own checkpoints when it comes to making different videos instead of the obvious opportunities the game, itself, gives me.

Above all else, my main goal is to beat this game in under 3 ingame hours. For now, this will be an "Any% Item" run, but it could turn out to be a 100% playthrough. I don't know if I'm gonna make "under 3 hours" mark based on how I'm approaching this playthrough, but I'll try.

Super Metroid takes place after Metroid II (which itself takes place after the entire Metroid Prime subseries), but before Other M (as controversial as that game is). At the end of Metroid II, the heroine, Samus Aran, found a baby Metroid. Said baby Metroid treated Samus like its mother.

So Samus took it to a space colony to get it researched. After she leaves, she gets a distress signal saying that the colony was under attacked. So she goes back to find out what happened.

Based on the Title Screen, the resulting area shows what happened. The baby Metroid was stolen, and the scientists were killed! If you get a closer look at them, you can even see BLOOD! On and leaking out of their bodies. That was really something for Nintendo at the time, let alone Nintendo of America. Censorship was usually their extreme forté during the 80s & 90s.

Go to the end of the area, and you'll find the baby Metroid. However, its still in the claws of Ridley, Samus' arch-nemesis.

You can't beat Ridley, here, most likely not just because the game just started, but also because Samus isn't supposed to be powerful enough to beat Ridley at that point. The script seems to only move along once Samus takes enough damage.

When that happens, Ridley flies away with the baby Metroid, and the whole space station starts to self-destruct. Even if you do manage to damage Ridley enough, however, he'll drop the Metroid and retreat... Only to come back and take the Metroid, anyway. If you're expecting to completely KILL him in this game, you're gonna have to wait for the rematch with him much, much later.

You must now make you way back to the spot you appeared from before you end up dying with the ship. It's already too late for the scientists, so you'll have to leave them behind.

Using her own spaceship, Samus barely manages to escape the explosion of the Space Colony. She now heads toward Planet Zebes, where she spotted Ridley going towards with the baby Metroid.
