I use Link to go through All-Star Mode, and while he is a character that has been around 1986 starting from the first Legend of Zelda game, Link does have different variants of him that come from different timelines, this Link is from Twilight Princess, but this game goes by Link's first appearance in any video game. With his Alt. Trophies, the 3DS version uses the Dark Link costume, Link's 6th alternate costume, while in the Wii U version, it uses his 7th alternate costume, which could be based on his appearance at the beginning of Skyward Sword.
In All-Star Mode, damage dealt against opponents is increased, while you take less damage and knockback from your opponent's attacks, Link's forward smash is a good move for KOs, as he can attack twice with it, while his up smash has him attack three times upward, the only thing to watch out for in All-Star Mode is stage hazards, as they keep their normal damage and knockback.
I will go over All-Star Mode and which characters you fight against.
Round 1 (2015-2007): Corrin, Greninja, Lucina, Robin, Dark Pit, Shulk, Bayonetta, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina & Luma
Round 2 (2006-2001): Lucario, Lucas, Ike, Zero Suit Samus, Toon Link, Bowser Jr., Roy, Olimar, Villager
Round 3 (1998-1994): Ganondorf, Sheik, Cloud, Jigglypuff, Charizard, Pikachu, Mewtwo, Diddy Kong, Ness
Round 4 (1993-1991): Meta Knight, Falco, Fox, Wario, King Dedede, Kirby, Sonic
Round 5 (1990-1986): Captain Falcon, Yoshi, Dr. Mario, Marth, Mega Man, Ryu, Palutena, Pit
Round 6 (1986-1984): Samus, Zelda, Link, Bowser, Peach, R.O.B., Duck Hunt Duo
Round 7 (1984-1980): Little Mac, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Mario, Pac-Man, Mr. Game & Watch

Round 6, or Round 2 in the 3DS version, could be considered the NES era, as you fight Link along with other characters, like Samus, Bowser, and Duck Hunt Duo, and they have been around since 1984-1986 on the NES. That round has a selection of stages, from The Legend of Zelda universe, Gerudo Valley or Hyrule Castle can appear in the 3DS version, the only stages include Golden Plains, Mushroomy Kingdom, Brinstar, Peach's Castle, and Duck Hunt, in the Wii U version, the following stages that can appear are Mushroom Kingdom U, Mario Circuit (Brawl), Skyloft, Norfair, Duck Hunt, Wrecking Crew, Peach's Castle, and Hyrule Castle.
For Link's Final Smash Trophy, he is shown using Triforce Slash on Ganondorf, and that is the same character used for the Final Smash Trophy in Brawl, I have seen most of the Final Smash Trophies for some characters use the same appearance as Brawl, and even having the character being the target for that move.
