I use Toon Link to play through All-Star Mode, and going over his Alt. Trophies in both versions, the 3DS version uses his red alternate costume, that is his 2nd alternate costume, and the Wii U version uses his 5th alternate costume, which could be based on Link's appearance in the original Legend of Zelda game. In All-Star Mode, you deal increased damage to your opponents, and while Toon Link is more about getting in quick hits, his forward smash has him slash twice if you press A after the first hit, this was one thing I liked about using Toon Link in this game, but they nerfed it in Ultimate. You do take less damage and knockback from your opponent's attacks, the only thing you have to watch out for are stage hazards, they keep their normal knockback, and they can end your run if you don't watch out.
I will go over All-Star Mode and which characters you fight against.
Round 1 (2015-2007): Corrin, Greninja, Lucina, Robin, Dark Pit, Shulk, Bayonetta, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina & Luma
Round 2 (2006-2001): Lucario, Lucas, Ike, Zero Suit Samus, Toon Link, Bowser Jr., Roy, Olimar, Villager
Round 3 (1998-1994): Ganondorf, Sheik, Cloud, Jigglypuff, Charizard, Pikachu, Mewtwo, Diddy Kong, Ness
Round 4 (1993-1991): Meta Knight, Falco, Fox, Wario, King Dedede, Kirby, Sonic
Round 5 (1990-1986): Captain Falcon, Yoshi, Dr. Mario, Marth, Mega Man, Ryu, Palutena, Pit
Round 6 (1986-1984): Samus, Zelda, Link, Bowser, Peach, R.O.B., Duck Hunt Duo
Round 7 (1984-1980): Little Mac, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Mario, Pac-Man, Mr. Game & Watch

Toon Link made his debut in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, so he is fought along with other characters that made their debut in 2006-2001, and his home stage of Pirate Ship is only in the Wii U version as a DLC stage, I remember how this game had DLC for stages that didn't come with characters, those stages being Pirate Ship and Super Mario Maker, for other stages where you fight Toon Link and other characters that debuted in 2006-2001 in the Wii U version are Mario Circuit, Pyrosphere, Garden of Hope, Castle Siege, Town and City, and Smashville, while in the 3DS version, there are only three stages that can appear, Distant Planet, 3D Land, or Tortimer Island, which could be because the 3DS version didn't have many stages, and some series only had one stage, so that could be why.
Toon Link's Final Smash Trophy, which is called Triforce Slash (Toon Link), that is to tell apart from Link's Triforce Slash, and even though the Brawl Trophy shows him using it on Ganondorf, in this game, Toon Link is shown using it on Donkey Kong, and while the same as Link's Final Smash, the difference is that Link's Final Smash has him travel across Final Destination, while Toon Link's is halfway.
