Super Smash Bros. Playthrough

Looking back, it’s easy to dismiss the original Smash as nothing more than a beta test for the game Nintendo and HAL really wanted to make with Melee a few years later for the GameCube. To an extent, that’s not necessarily wrong because the original does come off as very barebones. Nonetheless, it brings a lot of the fundamental ideas to the table and is designed as a multiplayer game. To that extent, it succeeds very well. There’s not a lot of depth and the single-player game is forgettable and repetitive. The characters are fun and the gameplay mechanics are easy to pick up. This is designed for gamers of all ages and skill levels and it does so very well. Other iterations of Smash would certainly be better and deeper. As a first go-round, Smash Bros. establishes the ground rules and provides an idea of where this franchise is heading.
