Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Classic Mode Intensity 9.9 as Dark Samus
Dark Samus started out as an Assist Trophy before becoming a playable character. Amusingly (or unfortunately), her Assist Trophy form showed off a much bigger difference of moves compared to her tenure as the real Samus' Echo Fighter in this game.
Dark Samus also has the honor of being the very first playable character in Smash to be created by an American developer. In this case, Retro Studios, who created the entire Metroid Prime Trilogy (which will... sooner or later... get a 4th game... maybe...)
----------
Dark Samus's Classic Mode run is called "The Great Poison Given Form". In this run, Dark Samus teams up with different characters who have been possessed or brainwashed in the past in order to beat her opponents. This references her very existence, as she is the Metroid Prime, itself, after having stolen Samus' Phazon Suit after she defeated her at the end of Metroid Prime 1:
- In Round 1, Dark Samus teams up with Zelda to fight Link. Zelda was possessed in the past, before. Once in Twilight Princess, and another time in Spirit Tracks.
- In Round 2, Dark Samus teams up with Robin to fight Chrom and his daughter Lucina. This references how Robin was possessed in the future in Fire Emblem Awakening.
- In Round 3, Dark Samus teams up with Ken to fight Ryu. Ken has a evil brainwashed version of himself known as Violent Ken.
- In Round 4, Dark Samus teams up with an Ivysaur to fight Squirtle, Charizard, and Pikachu. This ally seems to be the only one with no history of being taken control of, and this team up may just be because Ivysaur is part-Poison type, and being poisonous to lifeforms is part of why Dark Samus is a threat.
- In Round 5, Dark Samus teams up with Luigi to fight Mario, Peach, and Daisy. Luigi was possessed in Super Paper Mario, where he became the notorious Mr. L.
- In Round 6, Dark Samus has no team up, but must fight both Ridley and the real Samus on her own. It seems like they prefer to fight each other, though.
----------
In the Final Round, Dark Samus fights against Master Hand. If your intensity by that point is 7.0 or higher, Crazy Hand will join in at the start, too.
