With the release of the new DLC characters, we get Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and they are transformation characters, which is a mechanic that was never seen since Zelda and Sheik in Brawl, unless Pokémon Trainer counts in this game. They come with a new DLC stage called Cloud Sea of Alrest, which is an interesting stage, I will explain about it if ever it shows up online, and all the new songs from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 can play on Gaur Plain, while the Xenoblade Chronicles 1 songs and three songs from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 can play on Cloud Sea of Alrest.
Another bit of trivia is their Japanese names, Pyra is called Homura, which refers to a flame, referencing Pyra using fire-based attacks for her moves, and Mythra's Japanese name is Hikari, which means light, referencing Mythra's lightning-fast movement and light-based attacks.
In Mythra and Pyra's Classic Mode, it is called Shared Destinies, their opponents are characters who are the same or similar, and the items that spawn during Classic Mode are items that are from the same series as those characters, for example, the first battle is against Sheik and Zelda on Temple, and items from the Legend of Zelda series only appear.
Before explaining about Classic Mode, I could go over how they work, the difference is Pyra having more powerful attacks, her forward smash can even KO at lower percentages, and Mythra's attacks are weaker, but she is the more speedier one out of the two, so Mythra is better at dealing combo attacks, while Pyra is about launching her foes off the stage. I was surprised to see them being added into the game instead of Rex, because I am sure a lot of Smash Bros. fans wanted Rex ever since before this game's release, and like with Chrom in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U, Rex's spot on the roster was taken by Pyra and Mythra, and like how Chrom appears in Robin's Final Smash, even after Chrom was made playable in this game, Rex appears in Pyra and Mythra's Final Smash, and he does also appear in one of their taunts, in before we get a next Smash Bros. game and Rex finally gets to be a playable character. They have different Final Smash moves, Pyra has Burning Sword, and Mythra has Sacred Arrow.
I will save more about the explanations about the new characters for online battles, I might as well go over their Classic Mode route, so their opponents are characters that are similar to one another, or the same character in the case of Zelda and Sheik, who are fought on Temple in Battlefield Form.
Their next opponents are Samus and Dark Samus on Frigate Orpheon, then Pit and Dark Pit on Reset Bomb Forest, then Ryu and Ken in a Stamina Battle on Omega Form Suzaku Castle, and this is the hardest battle out of all of them as there are no items in that fight, and everyone has 150 HP. Their fifth opponents are Kirby and Meta Knight on The Great Cave Offensive in Battlefield Form, and their sixth opponents are Link and Dark Link, well it's technically another Link in the Dark Link alternate costume, on Fountain of Dreams in Omega Form, which I believe is based on the Dark Link battle from Ocarina of Time.
After the Bonus Stage, which you can get through really quickly as Mythra, as she has a better dash speed than Pyra, and the final battle is against Master Hand and Crazy Hand on Final Destination, with You Will Recall Our Names playing in that fight, a new song included in the DLC update, and you do fight both hands no matter the difficulty.
When you complete Classic Mode as Pyra and Mythra, the credits music will be Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Medley, and you will earn the Fighter Spirit for Pyra if she is the character at the front when selected on the roster, and you would get the Fighter Spirit for Mythra if she is at the front, but you can get the other Fighter Spirit at the Vault's Shop. This is the second and third character to be playable after having a Spirit already in the game, the first was Min Min, who had a Spirit in this game before she was playable.
