I have decided to do some custom tournaments with some theme to it, and as a test run, I went with characters that use swords, and this is not to be confused with Online Tourney, as I haven't been too interested in it lately because every time I participate, there always seems to be 8 players, the least amount there can be.
Tourney Mode can be done in Vs. Mode, and you can set up your own rules, how many players take part, and choose whether you want to do 1-vs-1 or 4 player free-for-all, one of the rounds will be 1-vs-1 even if you choose the free-for-all. There can be up to 32 players, because I remember Super Smash Bros. Melee where you can have up to 64 players, and I really liked Tourney, well it was called Tournament Mode in Super Smash Bros. Melee, that was one of my favourite modes to play back in Melee.
I might look up some themes that would go with certain characters, and for the test run, I went with swords, because it would be a good test run.
The following characters that can be used are Link, Marth, Lucina, Young Link, Ganondorf, Roy, Chrom, Meta Knight, Ike, Toon Link, Robin, Shulk, Cloud, Corrin, Hero, Byleth, Steve, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, and Sora. I counted Ganondorf because he uses a sword for his smash attacks, while all the other characters use a sword for their main moves.
Another reason for the test run is that I will allow DLC stages, which don't normally appear in an Online Tourney, in this case, we get Minecraft World and Mementos for this one, I might do tournaments where I can theme it around a specific series, because I know for Online Tourneys, there has been some themed around different series, like one themed around Mario, there was two Pokémon themed online tournaments, there can be many kinds to go with.
I play as Marth for this one, and I did make sure every possible character was picked for the CPUs in this tournament, and the stages that appeared were Minecraft World, Mementos, and Smashville. I could do one where only DLC stages can appear, and some interesting kinds of themes, we'll see how things go with that.
