Ultimate DooM
Episode 4 map 1 UV Speed

Time: 13.97

Description:
This map is goddamn annoying and difficult to optimize.
There are two main reasons for that: tight spaces
packed with monsters, and timed events.

Picking up a shotgun at start is useful for cleaning your
way to the first button - i saved a tic by shooting an
imp there compared to previous non-shooting attempt.
Also worth mentioning is that to be able to shoot so early,
you have to start switching weapons immediately as the
level starts, before taking the shotgun.

After that the corridor with spectres starts opening, and
few shotgun guys teleport into the main area. They need to
be killed or they'll prove to be a nuisance later. Also i
block one of them from teleporting or else he would cause
me to lose speed. Spectres are difficult to manipulate,
considering how narrow their corridor is. So it's 3 things
to consider at once: killing shotgun guys, manipulating
both spectres, and getting nice enough speed before
entering the hallway.

After that comes the keygrab part. It's fairly easy to
perform quickly (but is quite precise nonetheless), but the
way back is also annoying as spectres keep moving around.
I glide along one of them, saving 2-3 tics. It could be
possible to manipulate their positioning better though,i'm
not entirely sure about that.

Next is just running to the red door (i also glide off a
spectre a bit, getting 1.5 times bigger speed for that tic),
and shooting 2 shotgun guys to prevent losing speed. This
decision is debatable, since i arrive at the door on tic
218, but am able to shoot only on tic 222. Next section is
all timed by your shotgun shots and running speed doesn't
matter at all, so getting to the door 2 tics later but
being able to shoot at this tic would actually be faster.
Too bad that shotgun guy near the door is annoying and
uncooperative, and there is also an imp who is about to
teleport in, so i wasn't able to make it work, they blocked
me badly.

So while the door is opening, i shoot to wake up imps
(also at this moment another shotgunner teleports behind me).
All this room is timed by shotgun shots. Somehow, i had
enormous problems manipulating imps to get out of my way, but
finally managed to do so, albeit getting hurt after taking
the Blue Key. Another point worth noting here is that the
imp who's guarding the BK has to notice you and start walking,
so that when you finally shoot him, he flies further behind
BK, allowing for a quicker pickup.

After the BK, timed stuff ends and it's all about perfect
running. There's nothing to say about this part, i just shoot
a soldier so he doesn't block spectre's way out of the hallway,
which causes this hallway to be free of obstacles.

I believe time is optimal secondwise now. At least i don't
see where a beefy amount of 35 tics could be shaved off, even
10 looks barely achievable. Maybe manipulating shotgunners to
infight, and shooting a spectre while the hallway is getting
opened (and later killing him) would work, so that there is
clear path all the time. I'll be very much impressed if
someone gets 0:12 here.
