The 80s Had The Weirdest Crossover Video Games In The Best Ways
Growing up in the early days of video games was so much fun in so many ways. We had many games where we had to use our imagination more than just depending on graphics or having 100 hours of game play. One of the things that was fun was that, at least on the NES, Sega Genesis, or Super Nintendo, we got great games that had crossovers from other categories including mainstream advertising. 7Up brought Cool Spot to Sega Consoles with Cool Spot, Cheetoes brought Chester Cheetah to the Super NES too. As the Angry Video Game Nerd shared we even had Pepsi Man and Chex Quest on Playstation! While these are fun, there's one mascot crossover that just rises above the others, and that is Dominos Pizza's Noid with Yo Noid! on the NES. It was one of the weirdest games, but it was just so good.
Looking at Yo Noid! on the NES, is it a hidden gem or a cheesy relic of the 80s and 90s? This bizarre platformer starring Domino's Pizza's Noid mascot features classic Capcom gameplay and design. It feels like it fits right in with any of the Disney Afternoon games, along with Mega Man as well. You can expect yo-yo action, pizza power-ups, and some seriously strange enemies.
So who or what is The Noid? The Noid is a distinctive and somewhat chaotic advertising character that became synonymous with Domino's Pizza in the late 1980s. He was created as the embodiment of all the obstacles that could hinder a pizza's timely delivery. His role was to represent the problems Domino's aimed to "avoid." Β He's easily recognizable by his red, skin-tight suit, complete with rabbit-like ears. Β A prominent "N" within a white circle is displayed on his chest. He's a mischievous and persistent troublemaker, constantly trying to sabotage pizza deliveries. In essence, the Noid is a symbol of the challenges Domino's strives to overcome to deliver hot, fresh pizza.
What I love about this game isn't just the weirdness or quirkiness but how solid this game is. It is truly an amazing game that delivers more and better than it has any right to do so. The game and level design is super tight and fun, the music is fantastic, and the challenge is legit.
