The Adventure Island Game You Never Knew Existed But Need to Play!
One franchise I have been a fan of since the original Nintendo Entertainment System has been Hudson's Adventure Island. From the 3 original games, 4 if you count the stupid expensive Japanese exclusive game, Super Adventure Island on the SNES, and New Adventure Island on the TurboGrafx 16 the library of entries in the series for home consoles is pretty great. Unfortunately, we haven't gotten a new Adventure Island Game on anything but cartridges. Or have we? Let's take a look at an Adventure Island Game you never knew existed but you definitely need to play!
Hudson Selection Volume 4: Takahashi Meijin no Bōken Jima:
Released in December 2003 in Japan, Hudson Selection Volume 4: Takahashi Meijin no Bōken Jima isn't your typical NES Adventure Island remake. It's a charming 3D reimagining with vibrant graphics, new levels, and a fresh take on classic gameplay. Whether you're a hardcore Adventure Island fan or a GameCube collector, this video is for you! Let's uncover this forgotten chapter in gaming history together.
The "Hudson Selection" Series:
This version of Adventure Island was released as one of four different games int eh "Hudson Selection" series. This series was a collection of four games released exclusively in Japan for the GameCube. Hudson Soft, the developers, aimed to revive some of their classic franchises in 3D.
The series consisted of:
Vol. 1: Labyrinth Runner
Vol. 2: Star Soldier
Vol. 3: Cubic Lode Runner
Vol. 4: Adventure Island
The "Hudson Selection" games were known for their colorful graphics and attempts to modernize older gameplay styles. However, they didn't achieve widespread popularity, which contributed to their relative obscurity outside of Japan.
Due to its exclusivity, "Hudson Selection Vol. 4: Adventure Island" has become a sought-after item for GameCube collectors and fans of the Adventure Island series. Because of this, the game can be quite expensive to obtain.
Takahashi Meijin:
Master Higgins is based off of Takahashi Meijin, a very famous spokesperson for Hudson Soft during the 8 bit era. He was known for his high speed button pressing skills.
In essence, "Hudson Selection Vol. 4: Adventure Island" is a fascinating example of a game that showcases the challenges and opportunities of transitioning a classic 2D franchise to 3D. It's a piece of gaming history that deserves more attention, especially for those interested in the GameCube's library and the Adventure Island series.
