The MURDER BEAM Glitch in Super Metroid (SNES) - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts
In Super Metroid for the SNES, there's a crazy technique called the Murder Beam that can either demolish Mother Brain or crash your game, depending on how you execute the trick.
The Murder Beam is usually used during the final battle against Mother Brain, but it can be used against Ridley as well. It deals a ton of damage, but it's sort of unstable, so just be aware that this glitch can crash your game if you do it wrong. I haven't heard of any save file corruption when attempting this glitch or anything like that, but proceed with caution I guess. Anyway here is my brief Murder Beam tutorial.
To perform the Murder Beam, charge up any beam weapon like normal. While holding a charge, press Start to open your menu, then hit R button to switch to your equipment screen. Now equip the top four beam weapons - that is, equip every beam weapon but the Plasma beam (Note that this trick cannot be performed if you did not collect all of the beam weapons, I'm pretty sure).
Next, place your cursor over the Hi-Jump Boots and hit Left on the D-Pad and the A button on the same frame. If done correctly, you'll see that all five beam weapons are equipped at once, which is normally not possible. You'll also see the letters VAR appear next to your weapons.
Now, hold the shoot button as you exit the menu. Now stand under Mother Brain and face to the left as you release your charge shot. This will create the Murder Beam, which functions as a hit box in the form of a vertical column, and it will continually hit Mother Brain for a lot of damage as she stands over it.
The Murder Beam usually makes this battle go a lot faster. Sometimes it's called the VAR Beam.
Performing this glitch in any other way runs the risk of crashing your game. Do not shoot an uncharged shot while the Murder Beam is equipped.
