The legendary, first true Slaughter map. I have a lot to say about this one. This is actual the first Doom map I ever played. When I was just a toddler, my grandpa brought me to the basement and set me up on this level with IDDQD on and let me play it over and over. I would ask for it every time I came over, so I played it probably over 100 times throughout childhood. It is the reason I've loved Doom my entire life, and it is burned into my head forever. I think this might've not only been my first time beating it without saves, but also my first time beating it without cheats. If you asked me even like a year ago, I would've said its probably something I'll never beat legit. This truly felt like beating an old demon of mine. I wish I could show this to my ten year old self. Despite its significance, it was still always a joke map to me, I thought it was something only masochistic players would try to do. I was just uncultured. It is definitely the most difficult map I've beaten saveless, but it was not as much of a monster as I built it up to be in my head. It becomes a far more reasonable challenge with proper routing. Let infighting do most of the heavy work, assassinate the archvile closet before they resurrect everything, and don't just grab megaspheres because they're there. Even with the routing, it still feels pretty luck based. You need to pray for good infighting, to not get blocked by monsters in the crowded area, for high damage BFG rolls, and for the 3 up-close cyberdemons to not blast a point blank rocket in your face when rushing them. Still, this took me 95 attempts with proper routing. Thankfully most of those were very short, since most deaths came from the first 2 trapped cyberdemons. I certainly could've done this faster with some bolder BFG play, but I'm happy with this. The world record run I don't think uses any weapon besides the BFG, so I know my rocket usage is sub-optimal. I do not care, I beat it, and its a good recording.
Much of what I said about Go 2 It can be applied to Plutonia as a whole. It was my first exposure to Doom, it is nostalgic for me, it holds a special place in my heart, and I am proud of myself for finally doing this the right way, even if it isn't that big of an accomplishment by modern standards. I see every single level in a whole new light after experiencing them this way. Now that this is completed, it also means I have finished all of the commercial Doom levels, not counting like PlayStation exclusive stuff that I do not plan on ever touching. Everything that is classic to me. Which means I can finally start to play stuff that's new to me, and I am so excited. Stay tuned because I have so much planned.
