I have mixed feelings on Temple of Darkness. I do like this map, but the starting area and the room with stairs and the hell knight room are all somewhat annoying to me. This was much much harder than expected, this run was like my 73rd attempt. Almost every one of my deaths occurred on 2 moments though, that are both mostly out of my control. The starting area is completely a gamble of your shotgun spread vs their shotgun spread. You can get absolutely annihilated before you even reach the stairs if you get hit with multiple high damage rolls. This map makes health bonuses feel very important, since those bonuses and one medikit are all you get until the berserk far into the map, which means every time you get chipped by a shotgunner, it means a lot. The other moment that claimed most of my lives, was entering the hell knight room. I opted for telefragging the baron to save some rockets, but it is very inconsistent and based mostly on the baron's pathing. Sometimes he doesn't want to get on the teleporter at all, sometimes he gets stuck on it, sometimes he steps through it but continues to move giving no chance for the telefrag. It was like 1/10 times while recording that it would actually work. Everything after that is pretty easy. The heavily vertical room with the staircase is annoying, but less cruel if you kill the floating enemies beforehand. The last thing I'll mention, is the midi, "Contemplate". It doesn't seem like one to stand out, but it does for me. It resonates with me in a weird way. It is bouncy and abstract, a very different change of pace. It reminds me of driving home from college, since I would listen to the soundtrack during that often. Starting with this one, the remaining 7 maps all have some of my favorite soundtracks in the pack.
