The thing I 𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 about Pokemon Yellow... (Read description)
Whether you're an Eevee fan and/or a Gen 1 veteran like myself, there is one particular moment in Yellow I didn't pay attention that much as a kid (at the time I liked Pikachu more), but clearly do as an adult, anyone who played the special edition version of Red/Blue released internationally for Game Boy Color (not original Game Boy like the former or the Japanese version) knows that in this old school Pokemon game you had Pikachu as the Starter Pokemon to follow the anime...but that wasn't how it was 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥 to happen. In reality, Eevee was meant to be your Starter, according to Professor Oak. But, thanks to your Rival, Blue, he shoves you out of the way and steals the Poke Ball before you could. Of course, I can use a Gameshark to bypass this problem, but I can only do that in my original cartridge copy and the emulator for this doesn't allow cheats...
Story-wise, it's total injustice, but from a gameplay perspective, it does make perfect sense about Blue's actions, because Rivals in older Pokemon games have the Starter Pokemon that has the advantage over yours. Eevee over Pikachu is not a mistake, because from my longtime experience, the unique lovable fluffy fox-like Pokemon 𝘪𝘴 stronger than Pikachu, and that includes the Let's Go games and even the anime - yes, there was a time Gary defeated Ash's Pikachu with his Eevee (it's in the end screen)! It's such a huge shame that it took two whole decades later until Gen 7 with Let's Go Eevee on the Switch that Nintendo/Game Freak finally decided to officially do it right for this game's remake. Pray for me that I soon get that game alongside the Switch, among several others.
The video is the infamous sequence of obtaining the Starters and the first Rival battle.
