0TOEM is a wholesome hand-drawn puzzle adventure game where you explore a charming world filled with quirky characters. You play as a young amateur photographer, who sets off on a journey to see the mysterious phenomenon of TOEM, using a travel system that operates on a unique barter mechanism that rewards kindness and helpfulness.
Throughout the game, characters will reward you with their stamps for completing their quests. Earn enough stamps, and you can travel to the next area. Quests are centered around photographing specific things, but often come with obscure hints, demanding a mix of logic, exploration, investigation, and problem-solving skills, with some needing to be done in a specific order.
The art style is unique and adorable, but still sharp and clear. The characters are funny and endearing, with witty dialogue and diverse personalities. The puzzles are creative and fun, requiring you to use your camera in different ways and find hidden objects and secrets.
However, the quests are not very challenging, with most puzzles being easy or obvious to solve. Additionally, only about half have to be completed in each town to move onto the next. As a result, the main storyline can be completed in about 2 and a half hours, but I found my play-through to be a good balance of content and story pace.
Overall, TOEM offers a wholesome and cosy gaming experience with its light-hearted story and warm atmosphere. However, due to its brevity and lack of replay value, it is recommended to wait for a discount before diving in. If you're OK with the game length and the lack of difficulty, then this is a thoroughly enjoyable game.
