I've been meaning to record this wonderful mod for some time, though unfortunately I feel like that's a bit late by now as everyone's done it at this point. Figured why not do something that's ever so slightly different?

Custom maps! It took me a while to concoct a replacer mod so you won't be fighting D2 enemies using D2 items, but I feel that the results are worth it. However, while testing the replacer mod itself, I unfortunately discovered a problem. Most maps in Doom are nearly impossible to play with Total Chaos.

The thing about playing other custom maps is that Total Chaos's combat mechanics itself is balanced for low enemy counts. Maps where you'd normally fight one, two, maybe four or eight at the later levels. The moment you try to combine Doom maps that normally have hundreds of enemies swarming you all at once, it becomes an absolute mess.

Thankfully, Josh771's AI Director pretty much solves that issue while also keeping the danger always present! With this neat little mod, I could remove more than half of what you're supposed to be fighting in a map and have them gradually spawn in while you're not looking! It's brilliant for both difficulty and tension as the Director starts you off nice and slow, but will not hesitate to go even above the normal enemy count if you take too long, making every moment you spend in a map a risky decision.

Add DarkDoomZ along with some spooky music ambience (the current one playing is taken from the LAU Tomb Raider games), and I got myself some good spooks, if a bit janky due to how complex Total Chaos is. Don't be alarmed if there's moments of high lag in this video, the engine's just struggling to keep it together.

I initially was planning to record everything live, no demos. I was surprised to find out that despite the complexity of the mod, demo lumps works just fine with it! It records any movements in the inventory and pretty much does everything a demo normally would. It's wonderful!

And with that, the decision was made. A whole new series where I play random maps with Total Chaos. This might become a regular alongside Hideous Destructor and Sneaky Doom, who knows?

Sadly, Total Chaos does not have a difficulty selection. No ITYTDs or UVs here. The AI Director does all the enemy spawns anyways, so it's not like it makes any difference.
