TurboGrafx 16 CD Update - Gear Replacement & Testing
6So about a month ago I posted a video of an untested lot I bought containing a TurboGrafx 16 console with controller, TurboGrafx CD, Docking station, Multitap, and 4 Games, and while the main TurboGrafx 16 did work just fine, the CD Add-on did not read discs but did power on. I also didn't have a power cable for the CD Docking station which uses a very specific power cable. One of the fixes I learned about was to replace the gear in the TG16 CD as the original gears degrade overtime, so I took the chance and bought a new gear (was fairly cheap and it even came with 2 gears in case I need a new one). In this video, I took the CD unit apart to replace the gear and test whether that was the issue. I also got an aftermarket Power cable for the docking station. I bought mine from a site called RetroGameCave.com. Normally I prefer using OEM power cables for my consoles but this is a rare case where I recommend the aftermarket ones as the OEM Turbo CD Dock power cables are very rare and if you do find them, they're pretty expensive. I also test the game Monster Lair, one of the TurboGrafx CD games that came in that lot. Will it work? Watch and find out.
